the first post ever

I am reading The Maze Runner by James Dasher. I read up to page 66 this week. This book is about a boy, Thomas, who is in the middle of a giant maze and doesn't know how he got there. This allows for a very interesting plot development. Thomas only knows regular things like what a tree is or what a house is. He is confused about what is going on. He is constantly trying to find the same answers as you are looking for. You know that there is nothing hiding from you. There is no background information about culture or time period or anything because he can't remember anything about his life. Another interesting part of the book is that the central conflict of the story seems simple: Thomas has to find his way out of the maze. But as the story progresses it becomes more complicated. We find out that the maze actually changes every day, so that you can't memorize the paths. There are also mysterious monsters that come out at night, so everyone has to make sure they are in the center of the maze that has gates to keep out the monsters. Character development is very strange in this story because the main character has no recollection of his background. There is nothing to develop. Less is known about Thomas than some of the people he meets in the maze. This is a little confusing because you don't know very much about the main character. It is harder to relate to him.

  1. This is a really good post. Do you like this book so far? Does Thomas want to go home or is he content in the maze? Who are the other people in the maze that he meets? What are the monsters?

  2. Congrats on your first blog post ever! This book sounds really good, and I hope he gets out of the maze. What will happen if he can't get out of the maze? What would you do if you were stuck in a maze?

  3. So far this sounds like a good book. I don't think that i would like to be stuck in a maze though. I hope that Thomas finds his way out by the end of the story...

  4. Just by the blog post, I already want to read this book. The plot seems so ridiculous. It is so simple, yet intricate. The style of writing this book is also very cool. Being the reader and still knowing the same amount as the main character must make it fun to read! What do you think happened to Thomas?

  5. I agree with everyone who has commented on this post, i also would like to read this book. It must be scary for him to be in a maze and not know anything. My question to you is, Will Thomas ever get out of the maze?

  6. Despite not knowing the background of the protagonist, there may still be character development if he is growing and changing as a person throughout the novel. Have you found this to be true?

This sounds like a really interesting novel! Don't forget to include a quote from the text. You can use it to open your blog post or support an idea somewhere within it.
